“We’re going to have to have employers in the new economy, in the economy I’m going to bring to play, that are going to be so anxious to get good workers they’re going to be anxious to hire women.” (Presidential debate, Oct 15, 2012)
a) Mr. Romney, in your economy will there be any women who are hiring, or will they be too busy running home to make dinner?
b) What do you mean when you say there’ll be a lot more jobs so employers will be anxious to hire women? Will there not be enough men to go around?
c) You said government doesn’t create jobs, ‘memba?
Head over to this site to see this graph interactively. I’m impressed! Over half a million private sector jobs were added in the past 3 months. Recovery is picking up steam – finally!
John Boehner wants the tax cut extensions paid for, unlike the extensions of the Bush tax cuts. Different rules for different classes, apparently.
To the surprise of, well, nobody – he again played hostage with the middle class in a direct assault on the economy. He strapped the pipeline to the bill, knowing it would not pass. Merry Christmas and may John ____ America. If that pipeline was such a good idea, why not have a stand-alone vote for it? Oh… I see… it wouldn’t pass. A ransom like that requires hostages!
Since he forced that bill not to pass, a short term extension has been proposed by the Senate so they can continue to fight about it. Not good enough for Boehner! NOW he wants the payroll tax cuts, medicare fee cuts and unemployment extensions for a whole year. No short term deal. Gimme that pipeline or the hostage gets it! He owes someone BIG – he’s Carl from the movie Ghost.
He should be pretty worried he’ll meet the same fate as Carl one day. Remember the demons coming out of the woodwork to torture his black, shriveled soul?
He’s the REASON the whole year extension didn’t pass! Now he’s pointing at the Senate, which actually managed to achieve OVERWHELMING bipartisan agreement on something.
What are the best adjectives or nicknames for that boehnhead that you can think of? Keeping it clean may be a challenge!
In a game, opponents sabotage the other team’s progress and celebrate their victories. Sometimes there’s even a shiny trophy! In politics, it should be different because it’s not a cheap plastic trophy at stake. It’s our country. Our livelihoods. Our global status. The global economy.
A year ago I was appalled at the ridiculous obstruction of appointments. Candidates were obstructed even where there was absolutely no objection. Blocked for the sake of blocking. This is still happening, including gimmicks to prevent recess appointments that would help this country get on with governing. But that was nothing compared to what else has been going on in the past year! No progress is too good to sabotage!
We’ve had 3 years of the left trying to do what they could to reverse the steep slide that resulted from previous administrations policies. Every potential success has been sabotaged by the right wing. Every partial success has been sabotaged by the right wing. Every major success – sabotaged. Job that could have been created – sabotaged. Filibustered. Defunded. Real people spun into great panic by lies and half truths. Sabotage! Then blame Obama for failure! Sabotage! Then blame Obama for failure! Repeat! Repeat! Repeat!
The FAA workers (hostages) may get to go back to work on Monday. The right was just fine with abandoning investments (of OUR money!) and laying off workers who have families to support because they were just pawns in the game. The government may be able to start collecting the airline taxes the right was willing to piss away a billion dollars while they went home for the August recess to campaign and continue to sabotage our country. Intentional crisis averted!
The debt ceiling has been raised after months of economic hostage taking. The right knew Obama was not ever going to let people not get their social security checks, just like they knew Obama wasn’t going to let unemployment benefits stop at Christmas. Who cares if the Social Security and Medicare recipients were terrified? Recipients are leaches, because they are recipients from the coffers they contributed to for a lifetime. Recipients mean there’s less in the coffers to steal! Pawns, all of them. The deal was completed at the final hour, with great uncertainty about what is being cut where, and what else is going to be cut. Intentional crisis averted! Sort of. An administrative matter that should have been handled routinely has spooked the world economy but that’s OK so long as it makes Obama a one term president. It’s just collateral damage – friendly fire – in this game. WINNING!
But please hold those tax breaks on the job creators sacred! Of the 235,413 taxpayers who earned $1 million or more in 2009, 1,470 of them paid NO INCOME TAXES at all. I wonder how many jobs they created? Well, the job data doesn’t support the narrative.
So lets hide the obvious job creator lie and make a lot of noise about historic spending. Obama! Deficit! Crisis! Shhhhh… Obama has added less to the deficit and is trying hard to implement programs that will save money in the long run… but that fact doesn’t fit the dialog so shhhh…. let’s hear from the tea party instead! Let’s sabotage those cost (and life) saving programs.
People have got to wake up and quit being steamrolled by jackasses that think this is a game! The awakening seems to be starting. Please, please let that lead to doing the right thing in the next elections. We’ve seen what happens when you vote against your own interests in immature ‘vote the bums out’ years. Work hard to get PEOPLE WHO WANT WHAT YOU WANT into office!
And Democrats, please unite and work the triggers this fall to your advantage. Nancy Pelosi claims to have a plan. She’d better. We need it!

“The full consequences of a default – or even the serious prospect of default – by the United States are impossible to predict and awesome to contemplate. Denigration of the full faith and credit of the United States would have substantial effects on the domestic financial markets and the value of the dollar in exchange markets. The Nation can ill afford to allow such a result. The risks, the costs, the disruptions, and the incalculable damage lead me to but one conclusion: the Senate must pass this legislation before the Congress adjourns. ~Ronald Reagan”
